Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus emphasized today that the success of the interim government hinges on the implementation of critical reforms, warning that any failure in restructuring the state would render their efforts meaningless.

"We have no room to fail. We do not want to fail," he asserted while addressing the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this afternoon.
Dr. Yunus highlighted the overwhelming international support for the interim government, stating that nations of all sizes-- small, medium, and large--are backing Bangladesh's transition.

"Whenever we engage with global leaders, their response is clear: ‘Tell us what you need, and we will provide it.’ This is an opportunity we cannot afford to waste," he noted.

He described the reform proposals from six commissions as a valuable national asset and called for unified efforts to ensure their successful implementation.

The Chief Adviser pointed to the United Nations' recent Fact-Finding Report, which he said has reshaped global perceptions by exposing the human rights violations committed by the ousted government.

He also referenced his recent visit to Aynaghar, the secret torture cells, underscoring the Commission on the Inquiry of Enforced Disappearance’s findings detailing victims’ suffering.

Dr. Yunus stressed that implementing reforms swiftly is crucial to ensuring that the next government—to be elected through national polls—faces no questions regarding its legitimacy.

"Decisions on reform proposals must be taken urgently so that we can begin implementation immediately," he stated.

A BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, participated in the discussions, alongside representatives from other political parties.

The chiefs of the six reform commissions were present at the meeting, too.

On Thursday, the interim government formed the seven-member 'National Consensus Commission', led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, to discuss with the political parties on the recommendations of the six commissions aimed at reaching a consensus on a number of political, constitutional and electoral reform agenda.

The other members of the commission are Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, head of Police Reform Commission; Badiul Alam Majumder, head of Election Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, head of Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, head of Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.
