The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed optimism about the upcoming first meeting with the National Consensus Commission, led by Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, scheduled for Saturday.
The meeting, set to take place at 3 PM at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, marks the beginning of discussions aimed at shaping the country’s political future, BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said on Friday.
BNP’s delegation at the meeting will be led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who is expected to present the party’s stance on electoral reforms, democratic transition, and governance issues.
This follows an earlier meeting on February 10, where a three-member BNP delegation met with Chief Adviser Prof Yunus to discuss the interim government’s plans.
After that meeting, Mirza Fakhrul stated that Prof Yunus assured them his government was working to organize the next general election by December this year.
BNP leaders are hopeful that the interim government will soon unveil a roadmap for the upcoming election, aligning with the expectations of both the party and the public.
When asked about the government's timeline for announcing the roadmap, Fakhrul said, "It will be up to them to decide. They will likely make an announcement by February 15."
The first meeting with the Consensus Commission is seen as a crucial step in ensuring a transparent, participatory, and credible election process, setting the stage for constructive political dialogue in the coming months.
