BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir hoped that India will sent back Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh following unveiling of the UN fact-finding report on "Human Rights Violations and Abuses related to the Protests of July and August 2024 in Bangladesh."

The report accused Hasina of mass killings and gross human rights violations between 1 July and 15 August 2024 during July-August uprising.
"It has been proven that Hasina is a fascist who has tortured, persecuted and killed the people of this country. We are calling upon the Indian government to immediately return her (Hasina) and her accomplices to Bangladesh and hand her over to the government for trial. This is our expectation," Fakhrul said this while speaking at a press briefing at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office after a meeting with Acting British High Commissioner in Dhaka, James Goldman, on Thursday.

"I would like to thank the UN fact-finding committee for their report, which correctly states that the killings were carried out as per the orders of a particular individual, the fascist Hasina," the BNP leader said.

He expressed their party's relief as the truth about the incidents that took place has now been uncovered through the UN report. "The problem is that when the United Nations speaks, we all believe it. But when we, the political parties, say it, many are reluctant to believe. Anyway, I would like to thank the UN team that came here and presented the report."

Mirza Fakhrul said, "The British Deputy High Commissioner met us in BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office today. It was pre-arranged, coincidentally, British High Commissioner Sarah Cook will meet our party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London."

Fakhrul said, "We have been saying from the beginning that not only political leaders and activists were abducted and killed in the Ayna Ghar, but also the people of Bangladesh were abducted and killed over there.

Ordinary people were detained and tortured on false charges of terrorism."

"When Al-Jazeera reported on the Ayna Ghar, the then fascist government denied it. They were shown that militants were being trained, educated, prepared for militancy, and bombs were being made in each house."

"But today it has been proven that what they said were false," said Fakhrul.

He said, "Awami League (AL), their government at that time, very consciously violated human rights in Bangladesh, destroyed democracy to cling to power."

Regarding the cancellation of Awami League's registration, he said, "I have said that the people will decide about this."

"We have been saying this repeatedly that we are a liberal democratic party. We believe in democracy, we trust in all the norms and conditions of democracy," said Fakhrul.

He said, "We are completely opposed to proportional voting system. We will not support this type of election system in any way. Because the people here are not used to it, so the demand of such voting system is absurd."

Fakhrul said, "We are also completely opposed to local government elections before the national elections."

"This is nothing but to bring the country to a more fragile state. The sooner the elections are held, the easier politics will be, the people of Bangladesh will come to a stable state," he said.

Fakhrul said, "The elections need to be held quickly for two main reasons, one is to restore stability and the other is to implement good governance."
