BN takes over Chair of NIOHC

Bangladesh Navy officially assumed the Chairmanship of North Indian Ocean Hydrographic Commission (NIOHC) for the 2025-2027 term with unanimous support from the member states, a press releases of ISPR said on Thursday.
 
The 24th meeting of the NIOHC was held in Bangkok, Thailand from February 11 to 13. A delegation of two members from Bangladesh Navy, led by Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, Chairman of the National Hydrographic Committee and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), participated in this prestigious meeting.

The meeting brought together delegates from ten member states, including Egypt, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, six associate member states, three observer states and representatives from various international organizations attended to discuss significant advancements in hydrography, regional initiatives and the evolving role of hydrography in fostering a thriving Blue Economy.
 
Other key topics included maritime safety, sustainable maritime resource management and hygrograph's role in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water).

On the final day of the meeting, Bangladesh Navy officially assumed the Chairmanship of NIOHC for the 2025-2027 term with unanimous support from the member states. It marks a significant milestone.
