A court in Brahmanbaria sentenced three persons to death in a case filed over the murder of a trader in Brahmanbaria district in 2019.
Brahmanbaria Additional District and Session Judge Ayesha Akter Shumi handed down the verdict against Kajal Mia, 49, Ripon Mia, 32, and Russel Mia, 30. Of them, Russel Mia tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Saidur Rahman, a fruit trader of Baherchar village in the district, went out and did not return home on September 28, 2019. He had been missing since then. Police later recovered his body from the Launch Ghat in Meghan River on September 29.
Saidur's brother-in-law Lokman Mia lodged a case with Bancharampur Police Station in this connection.
Police arrested Ripon and Kajal in the case. They also gave confessional statements under section 164 before the court.
The convicts admitted that they killed Saidur as they failed to pay the debt money Tk 20,000 from him.
On September 19, 2020, police submitted charge-sheet against three people.
