DERAI, SUNAMGANJ, Feb 13: A construction worker was electrocuted in Derai Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
Two others were also injured in the incident that took place in Kejaura Village under Karimpur Union at noon.
The deceased was identified as Mawla Mia, 50, son of Lal Mia, hailed from Durgapur Upazila in Netrakona.
The injured are: Ratan Mia, 35, son of late Majid Mia of Durgapur in Netrakona; and Manzur Alam, 19, son of Amin Uddin of Kanaighat in Sylhet.
Local sources said that the trio came in contact with live electricity while testing the soil before starting the construction work of a madrasa building at Kejaura in Derai, which left them critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed to Derai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Mawla dead and referred two others to Sylhet for better treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Derai Police Station Md Abdur Razzak confirmed the incident.
