Road mishaps claim 6 lives in four districts

Six people were killed and at least five others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Brahmanbaria, Madaripur, Faridpur and Rajbari.

BRAHMANBARIA: A female school teacher was killed after being hit by a truck in Bancharampur Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The accident took place in Battali area of the upazila at around 9:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Farhana Yasmin Shilpi, 46, mother of two children and wife of late Mohammad Shajahan Alam, a resident of Khoshkandi Village under Bancharampur Upazila. She worked as a part-time teacher at Bancharampur SM Government Pilot High School.

According to police and local sources, the teacher was going to Bancharampur from Ujanchar riding on a motorcycle with a relative at night.

On the way, a speedy truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle. At that time, she fell on the road from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries.

Locals then rescued her and took to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Farhana Yasmin Shilpi dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bancharampur Model Police Station (PS) Morshedul Alam Chowdhury confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

SHIBCHAR, MADARIPUR: A three-wheeler driver was killed in a road accident in Shibchar Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Nodir Par area under Dwitiyakhanda Union of the upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sagar Sarder, 35, son of Quddus Sarder, a resident of Rudrakar Village under Palang Upazila in Shariatpur District. He was a nosimon (local vehicle) drive by profession.

Police and local sources said that Sagar came to Shibchar Bazar carrying tins on his nosimon. After delivering the tins to some shops, he was returning to Shariatpur in the afternoon.

On the way, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit his nosimon in Nodir Par area of Dwitiyakhanda Union, leaving him critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police visited the scene.

Shibchar PS OC Md Ratan Sheikh, PPM, confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if any written complaint is received from the deceased's family.

FARIDPUR: Two people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Chunaghat Beribadh Bridge area under the upazila at around 1 pm.

The deceased were identified as Hashem Patadar, 40, son of Ali Patadar, and Lavlu Mia, 28, son of Lal Mia. Both of them were residents of Khalil Mondolerhaat area in the upazila.

According to police and local sources, a speedy truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with a Faridpur-bound passenger carrying battery-run auto-rickshaw in the area, leaving six people injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared two of them dead upon arrival.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies.

Faridpur Kotwali PS OC Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.

RAJBARI: Two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Pangsha Upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The accident took place on the Langalbadh road under Mourat Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Shuvo, 18, son of Md Shariful Islam, and Niloy, 24, son of Milon, residents of the upazila.
The injured is Rifat, 17, son of Md Manjur of the same upazila.

According to eyewitness Md Biplob Hosain, the three were heading toward Brittidanga riding on a motorcycle. The motorcycle crashed with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the area and the riders sustained critically injuries.

The injured were then rescued by locals and taken to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the two dead on arrival.

Physician of the health complex Dr Anwarul Islam Khan confirmed the matter, adding that the two deceased had died before being taken to the hospital.
