Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has prioritised necessary reforms before the next national election.
"We've clearly told the Election Commission that no national election will be held in the country without complete reforms."
Jamaat secretary general Miah Golam Parwar made this comment while talking to reporters after holding a two-hour meeting with the EC led by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Thursday.
"People want the activation of local government. We also support holding local government elections before the national polls," he said.
The party submitted a written proposal outlining key election reforms, emphasising their implementation before any polls.
The proposals include reinstating the proportional representation (PR) system, restoring Section 91 of the 'Representation of the People Act,' and relaxing the terms of the Political Party Registration Act.
Regarding election preparedness, Golam Parwar said Jamaat is capable of fielding candidates in all 300 constituencies nationwide.
