Two youths were reportedly killed in a mob lynching while they were allegedly trying to steal cow in Tajumuddin upazila of Bhola on Thursday.
The incident took place early in the morning at Bhuiyan Bari of Ward No. 7 under Sonapur Union in the upazila.
The dead were Nayan, 26, a resident of Balia Kandi village in Tajumuddin, and Amir Hossain, 27, a resident of Khasmahal area of Borhanuddin upazila. They are said to be professional cow thieves.
According to police and locals, around 3:30 am on Thursday, the two were preparing to steal a cow in a residence of Bhuiyan Bari at the village. At that time, the owner of the cow, Khalek, sensed the matter and shouted. Hearing his screams, other people from the house and the surrounding area came out and chased Nayan and Amir Hossain to the door of the house and caught them. Later, locals tied them up and beat. At one stage of the beating, Nayan and Amir Hossain died.
Tajumuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said that Nayan and Amir Hossain had gone to steal cows. Later, the locals caught them and thrashed them, and both of them died on the spot. On information, police went to the spot, recovered their bodies. Legal action is being taken in the incident.
