A severe traffic jam stretching approximately five kilometers formed on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Kanchpur Narayanganj on Thursday night.

The congestion extended from Kanchpur Bridge to Signboard, causing immense suffering for commuters and drivers.

On-site observations revealed that vehicles on the Dhaka-bound lane remained stuck for over 45 minutes. Elderly passengers and children suffered the most, with many travelers resorting to walking to reach their destinations.

Abul Hossain, a passenger who boarded a vehicle in Kanchpur, reported taking more than 30 minutes to reach Chattogram Road. His destination was Shanir Akhra, and he noted that it had been a long time since he last experienced such gridlock. Another passenger, Arif Hossain, who boarded a bus from Chattogram Road to Jatrabari, stated that his bus had been stationary for 20 minutes.

Transport drivers attributed the congestion to law enforcement checks in the Matuail area of Dhaka. They claimed that police inspections were only affecting the Dhaka-bound lane.

Abu Naim, in charge of the Shimrail Highway Police Camp, confirmed that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was conducting vehicle checks in Matuail, leading to the traffic jam. However, he assured that police had started clearing the vehicles to ease the congestion.
