Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes were halted for two hours on Wednesday due to dense fog, stranding five ferries in the middle of the Padma River. Over 300 vehicles were left waiting at the terminals.
Nasir Chowdhury, deputy general manager of BIWTC’s Aricha Region, reported that the fog, which started at 6 a.m., engulfed the waterway, forcing a suspension of ferry operations to prevent accidents. The ferry 'Gauri' was stuck with passengers and vehicles aboard, and 12 other ferries were delayed at both terminals.
Services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were also suspended at 6:30 a.m. as ferries 'Hamidur Rahman,' 'Shah Ali,' and 'Chitra' became stranded. The 'Dhanshiri' ferry was also caught in the fog while traveling the opposite route.
Ferry services resumed at 8 a.m. on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and at 8:30 a.m. on the Aricha-Kazirhat route after the fog cleared, allowing vehicles to continue their crossings.
