A devastating fire broke out at Ramgati Bazar in Lakshmipur early Tuesday, burning down 20 shops and causing an estimated loss of about Tk one crore.
The blaze reportedly began around 5 am from an electrical short circuit believed to have ignited the fire in an oil and gas cylinder shop.
According to traders, the fire quickly spread after a gas cylinder exploded, engulfing nearby shops. Among the 20 shops affected, 18 were completely burnt, while two suffered partial damage. The affected businesses included oil and gas cylinder shops, grocery stores, and cloth shops.
The fire service responded promptly, dispatching two units to the scene. Despite their efforts, along with support from police and local residents, the fire raged on for about an hour, leaving the shops and their goods in ashes. Local sources estimate the damage at Tk one crore.
Ramgati Upazila Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Mohammad Zakir Hossain said, 'On information, two units of our team arrived at the scene and were able to bring the fire under control after an hour of effort.'
