A violent clash between two rival groups over a longstanding land dispute leaves one killed and five others injured at Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Md Belal Hossain, 52, was a supporter of Abdul Hakim, one of the parties involved in the dispute.
Citing locals, Rajarhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Taslim Uddin said that the conflict stemmed from an ongoing feud between Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Hakim over the ownership of 20 decimals of khas land in Tongar Kuti under Bidyanondo union.
The altercation broke out when supporters from both sides attempted to assert control over the land, leading to a heated confrontation. During the clash, six people were injured, with Belal succumbing to his wounds while being rushed to a local hospital, he said.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have deployed additional forces to the area to prevent further violence. Authorities have urged both groups to resolve the matter legally to avoid further escalation, added the OC.
