Ex-lawmaker Chayan arrested from Gazipur with students' cooperation

Police have arrested former Awami League MP from Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur) constituency Chayan Islam from a residence of his relative at Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.

At 12midnight on Sunday, Chayan was arrested from the house in the upazila's Matir Masjid area where he had been hiding for around the past two months. His wife and an associate were also detained from the house and taken to the police custody.

Sreepur Police Station OC Jaynal Abedin Mandal said they came to know that the former MP was hiding in a house in the area. Later, a team of police cordonned off that house at 11:45PM with the help of Anti-Discrimination Student's Movement and BNP activists and arrested Chayan from the spot.
