A violent clash broke out between the students of Dhaka City College and Ideal College at Science Laboratory intersection at Dhanmondi in the capital, allegedly due to prior enmity.
The altercation began around 4:15 PM on Sunday, and continued intermittently.
According to eyewitnesses, over a hundred students from Ideal College gathered in front of Dhaka City College, armed with sticks. They reportedly hurled bricks and vandalized the colleges nameplate. In response, City College students retaliated, leading to a full-blown confrontation that created panic in the area and brought traffic on Mirpur Road to a halt.
Police attempted to control the situation from the beginning, and later, additional forces from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were deployed to restore order. However, both groups continued to engage in chases and counter-chases.
The exact reason behind the clash remains unclear, as no students from either side have provided a definitive statement.
Several students from both institutions were injured due to the brick-throwing and physical altercations. Authorities are working to bring the situation under control.
