Ex-CEC Justice Abdur Rouf passes away

Former chief election commissioner Justice Md Abdur Rouf passed away at a private hospital in the capital on Sunday morning at the age of 91.

His personal assistant Md Tawhid confirmed that Abdur Rouf, the former Appellate Division judge, breathed his last around 10AM while undergoing treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney Hospital at Moghbazar.

"He had been seriously ill for the past two months and had been receiving treatment at the hospital. Due to a low heart rate, a pacemaker was implanted in his heart.'

"After completing necessary formalities in Dhaka, he will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mymensingh," Tawhid added.

Rouf served as the country's fifth chief election commissioner from December 25, 1990, to April 18, 1995.
