BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stated that while his party will continue to criticize various aspects of the interim government, they will not allow the Yunus government to fail.
Speaking as the chief guest at a book launch event at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium of the National Press Club on Saturday, Rizvi made these remarks. The event marked the publication of GM Rajib Hossains book Droher Graffiti: Chobbisher Gono Abhuthan, and was presided over by National Press Club President, poet Hasan Hafiz.
Among the special guests were Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government; Kader Gani Chowdhury, Secretary General of the United Professionals Council; Syed Abdal Ahmad, Executive Editor of Amar Desh newspaper; and Kazi Raunak Hossain, Editor of Sargam magazine.
Rizvi alleged that India is directly interfering in Bangladeshs sovereignty. It was one thing for them to provide shelter to Sheikh Hasina, but now they are giving her the freedom to instigate instability in Bangladesh. The reaction in Bangladesh to her statements is being backed by India. Such interference by one sovereign nation in another is a blatant violation of international law, he said.
Shafiqul Alam criticized the former Awami League government, saying, One of their fascist tactics was to impose their version of history on the people. They are still engaged in such deceitful activities. They have tried to portray a globally respected leader like Dr. Yunus as a terrorist while presenting themselves as victims.
He further claimed that Sheikh Hasina and her associates have transferred $234 billion out of the country and were responsible for the enforced disappearance of 3,500 people. Between July and August, 2,000 people were killed, some of whom were just four to eight years old. The Shapla massacre happened under her rule. Following the verdict against Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee, brutal killings took place. The Chief Justice of the country was forcibly expelled using security agencies, yet they claimed the judiciary was independent.
Kader Gani Chowdhury emphasized the significance of the recent uprisings, stating, It was the blood of the countrys students and people on the streets in July and August that has allowed us to breathe in free air today. This collective unity must be upheld at any cost.
Syed Abdal Ahmad stressed the need for a stable government through elections. We must establish a political government as soon as possible. Law enforcement agencies are not fulfilling their duties properly. They still believe that chaos might bring back an authoritarian regime, he said.
