Former Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Molla Nazrul Islam and three other Police Superintendents (SPs) have been arrested in separate operations from Friday till Saturday.

The arrested officers have been taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) office.
While the law enforcement agencies have not officially commented on the matter, several senior officers of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police have confirmed the arrests.

Apart from Molla Nazrul Islam, the other arrested officers include Asaduzzaman, the Commandant of the In-Service Training Center in Nilphamari; Abdul Mannan, the Police Superintendent assigned to the Rangpur Range; and former Police Superintendent of Bagerhat, Abul Hasnat.

Following the July-August uprising, cases were filed against each of these officers, and they were later reassigned to different police units.

Abul Hasnat had reportedly been active in suppressing the 2024 National Parliamentary Election protests and the anti-discrimination student movement. Abdul Mannan had also been used force to suppress student and public movements while serving as the Police Superintendent in Comilla and Sylhet. He had previously faced allegations of fabricating terrorist incidents during his time with the CTTC (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime).

Molla Nazrul Islam was transferred from his position as the GMP Commissioner to DIG of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) on May 31, 2023, before being reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Recently, he was transferred from the CID to the Rajshahi Police Academy. Molla Nazrul is an officer from the 20th batch of the BCS Police cadre.

Abdul Mannan had also been criticized for using force and engaging in unethical activities during his tenure as Police Superintendent in Comilla and Sylhet, particularly during the elections and the anti-discrimination student movement.

Asaduzzaman, an officer from the 25th batch, was previously criticized for using force and engaging in unethical activities while serving as the Police Superintendent of Noakhali, particularly during the election period and the anti-discrimination student movement.
