Fortune Barishal successfully defended their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title, securing a hard-fought three-wicket victory over Chattogram Kings in the final at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Batting first, Chattograms openers provided a dominant start, amassing a 121-run partnership in just 12.4 overs. Pakistans Khawaja Nafay led the charge with a blistering 66 off 44 balls, smashing seven boundaries and three sixes before his dismissal. Parvez Hossain Emon remained unbeaten on 78 off 49 balls, reaching his half-century in 30 deliveries but struggling to accelerate towards the end. His innings included six fours and four sixes.
English batter Graham Clark added a quickfire 44 off just 23 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours despite dealing with a hamstring issue. His explosive knock helped Chattogram post a challenging total.
However, Barishals bowlers fought back. Tanvir Islam proved expensive, conceding 40 runs in just two overs, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain leaked 26 runs in his two-over spell. Kyle Mayers remained wicketless, giving away 35 runs in four overs.
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali was the standout performer for Barishal, delivering a tight spell of 4-0-21-1, including two crucial death overs where he conceded only 10 runs. Ebadot Hossain also played a key role, taking the wicket of Nafay and finishing with figures of 4-0-35-1.
With this victory, Fortune Barishal secured back-to-back BPL championships, cementing their dominance in the tournament.
