Islamic University (IU) unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir hosted a views exchange programme with students from different religions on the campus in Kushtia on Thursday.

On the occasion of Shibirs 48th founding anniversary, they organised the event at the ground floor of the universitys auditorium in the morning.

Students from different religions including, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Chakma took part on the occasion.

They expressed their views and thoughts through this programme.

Pradip Kumar Das, a student from Christian religion, said, We all secured our places in the university based on merit. The university is for people of all religions, and the motherland belongs to all of us. No one will step back from the pull of the motherland. With merit and integrity, we will all unite to move the country forward.

Buddhist student Montu Chakma said, People hailing from Hill Tract areas have always suffered numerous challenges throughout their entire campus life. Our lifestyle has differences from others due to our culture.

He urged the university administration through the programme to provide them separate rooms at the halls of the university.

IU Shibir president Mahmudul Hasan said Shibir is an ideological student organisation. We will spread our ideology, you spread yours. If you like ours then youre welcome and if it is not then it is okay. Islam does not allow forcing the followers of other religions. Everyone should lead their lives according to their own faith. We would like to request the university administration not to arrange any departmental programmes on the religious holidays of other faiths.

Our constitution is for the students, not for any specific religion. Every article of our constitution is crafted for the welfare of the students. Our doors are always open for all students regardless of their religion, he said.'
