Bangladesh women's national football team that won the SAFF Women's Championship twice in a row is nominated for the Ekushey Padak 2025. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the list of the nominees for the award on Thursday.
In addition to winning the SAFF awards, the Bangladeshi woman booters brought respect and recognition to their country. For that they were nominated for the award.
Ekushey Padak?(Medal of the Twenty-first) is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh. This award was introduced in 1976 in honour of the 1952 Bengali Language Movement martyrs.
The prize is bestowed upon the individual, group or organisation to honour efforts in a variety of disciplines, including economics, education, and culture. The award is administered by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
This year, a total of 14 individuals and one organisation were nominated in this regard.
Bangladesh women's national football team first won the SAFF Women's Championship in 2022 following a victory over the host Nepalese.
The history was repeated as Bangladesh women kept the trophy of the SAFF Women's Championship 2024 with a 2-1 hard-fought victory over the host Nepal in the final at the Dasarath Rangasala in Kathmandu, Nepal last year.
