Six people including two women and a transgender were murdered in separate incidents in five districts - Lalmonirhat, Narayanganj, Jashore, Moulvibazar and Rangamati.
PATGRAM, LALMONIRHAT: A housewife was strangled to death by miscreants in Patgram Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Baburkamat area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Renuka Begum, 45, a resident of the same village.
According to police and local sources, Renuka's elder son Hasanuzzaman Sagor found the room of her mother locked from inside at noon. Getting no response, he then entered the room after breaking open the door, and found her mother's body with a veil wrapped around her neck and a pillow.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Lalmonirhat General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station (PS) Ashrafuzzaman Sarker confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken in this connection.
RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ: Two youths, who were in injured a clash between two juvenile gangs over establishing supremacy and drugs dispute in Rupganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday, succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
The clash broke out at Tarabo Bazaar of the upazila on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Rashedul Islam, 16, son of Amir Hossain, and Hridoy Mia, 22, son of Jamal Hossain. Both of them were residents of Puran Bazar area under Rupganj Municipality.
According to local sources, there had been a longstanding dispute between the two groups - one led by Shimul and another by Shrabon - over establishing supremacy in the area and drugs dispute.
As a sequel to it, the both groups swooped on each other with lethal weapons at Tarabo Bazaar on Tuesday evening, which left Rashedul and Hridoy critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to the DMCH.
Later on, both of them succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday while undergoing treatment there.
Rupganj PS OC Liakat Ali confirmed the matter, adding that filing of a murder is underway in this regard and police are trying to arrest those involved in the incident.
JASHORE: A septuagenarian woman was reportedly beaten to death by her neighbour over repayment of loan in Sharsha Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Pipragachhi Village under Bagachra Union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Khatin, 70, wife of Nabisaddin Gazi, a resident of the village.
It was known that Opu Hossain, 30, son of Abdus Samad took some money as loan from Mizanur, son of Rahima. The members of the two families used to lock into altercation over the issue.
On Tuesday noon, an altercation erupted between Rahima and Opu over the issue and at one stage, Opu beat Rahima up and dragged her on a street, leaving her critically injured.
Later on, she was rescued and taken to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex first, and then, shifted to Jashore General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Sharsha PS OC Rabiul Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to detain the accused.
KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR: A man was stabbed to death by his rivals over a previous enmity in Kamalganj Upazila of the district on Monday night.
The incident took place at Kamarchhara Tea Garden in Alinagar Union of the upazila at around 10 pm.
The deceased was identified as Modhu Mia, 40, son of Durud Mia, a resident of the area.
Local sources said that there had been a longstanding dispute between Modhu and one Dilip over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to it, Dilip along with five to seven of his cohorts locked into an altercation with Modhu at night. At one stage of the altercation, they stabbed Modhu with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene at around 1 am on Tuesday.
The law enforcers, however, arrested six suspects in this connection.
Kamalganj PS OC Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
RANGAMATI: A transgender was stabbed to death by miscreants in Kawkhali Upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shila, 35.
It was known that Shila used live in a rented house at Peshkarghona in Betbunia Union and play the role of the chief in the upazila transgender community.
On Monday, miscreants stabbed Shila at her rented house, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later on, police have recovered the body from the scene at around 6 pm on Monday and sent it to Rangamati Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday.
The body bore several injury marks on its throat and stomach.
Kawkhali PS OC Md Saiful Islam Shohag confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to detain those involved in the killing.
