Ex-minister Shahriar Alam's house torched in Rajshahi

A group of protesters set fire to the house of Shahriar Alam, former state minister for Foreign Affairs, in Rajshahi on Thursday noon.

Protesters set fire to Shahriar's three-storey house in Chaksinga Mohalla of Arani Municipality in Bagha Upazila at around 12 pm.

It was learnt that around 100 agitated people coming from Bagha and Charghat upazilas gathered in front of the house and set it on fire.

On information, the fire service personnel reached the spot and daused the blaze under control by 2pm.

ASM Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bagha police station, confirmed the matter.

Besides, a training centre for a garment manufacturing and export company called BGMEA, owned by Shahriar in Sataripara village, was vandalised and set on fire, he added.
