A Mymensingh court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment until death for killing a child after abduction in 2016.
Mymensingh Additional Sessions Judge Ali Munsur passed the order against Shaheed Mia of Nandail upazila in the district. The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh.
Two other accused, Taher Uddin and Tahura Begum, however, were acquitted due to a lack of evidence in the case.
According to the case statement, there had been a longstanding dispute between Shaheed and his neighbor, Abdul Kaiyum, over the demarcation of a boundary wall.
As a sequel to the dispute, Shaheed abducted Kaiyum�s child, Tasin, and demanded ransom money over the phone from him on August 15, 2016.
Shaheed, at one point, strangled the child to death for not getting money from Kiyam and hid the body in a septic tank on on August 17.
Police later recovered Tasin�s decomposed body two days later, on August 19.
A murder case was lodged with Nandail Police Station in this connection.
After an investigation, police submitted a chargesheet against three people, including Shaheed. Taher Uddin and Tahura Begum, were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
