Floating of a new student-led political party for the first time in the history of Bangladesh set to launch within February, has triggered intense mixed reactions. This development has caused concern among political analysts.

Nahid Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, stated, "A new political party is being formed under the leadership of students and youth! We want to know what kind of party you envision, and we aim to build the party based on that model."

Political analysts, academicians and party leaders have suggested that if a new political party is to be formed, it must be based on sound theoretical and analytical principles. Without understanding clear intention of party founders, it is unclear whether this new party will resemble existing political parties or if it will take a different approach altogether.

Furthermore, this endeavour may not align with previous aspirations of the youth. The students, however, claimed that they want to unify the political platform under a central leadership to maintain the achievements of the July uprising.

Political Analyst and Economist Professor Anu Mohammad of Jahangir nagar University said, "I commend the students for forming a political party. However, they will have an Interim Government and also a political party, which does not maintain the neutrality of the government. And they will have to take a number of steps forward on this path, since they have not yet established a party constitution. It has not even been decided which political ideology they will follow. In the meantime, we are skeptical about how they will form as a political party.

Ruhin Hossain Prince, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), said, "We are scared about the way students are gaining power. What they were saying in the beginning is now going in the opposite direction. In fact, they are implementing the dream of a party. We want them not to form a political party."

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Shah Alam said, anyone can form a political party. However, if party founders serve the government, they will be controversial. They want to erase the 1972 constitution. But this was not among the main issues of their Anti-Discrimination Movement. They had also launched a government job quota movement. This was not among them either. These students only want to erase the 1972 constitution and the spirit of Liberation War. But their agenda has never been communal. The way they are threatening UNOs is also unacceptable. Local administrations are also afraid of students because of their unbridled flaunting of power. They have also played a key role in changing the home advisor. In fact, they are behaving in the likes of a King's Party.

Jagannath University Professor Dr Nasir Ahmad said "politics and forming a political party are constitutional rights of the people of Bangladesh. The manner in which students of Bangladesh coupled with the people fearlessly faced bullets and sacrificed their lives during the mass uprisings to overthrow the fascist government, demanding change and reforms of our sick political culture; they well deserve to form a political party to fulfill their desired expectations.
