BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said Awami League will not be allowed to do politics under its current name in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a discussion titled 'National Unity and Current Reality' organized by the Regional Editors' Council at the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the Jatiya Press Club he said, "We demand that Awami League be tried as political organization for mass killing and crimes against humanity."
The BNP leader said the people of Bangladesh have rejected the Awami League through a mass uprising and expelled them.

A law should be prepared as per the provisions of the constitution to try Awami League as a political organization for their crimes.

He said allies of deposed premier Sheikh Hasina are at the highest level of the administration.

Therefore, the administration or the judiciary, whatever it may be, or the electoral system, must be cleansed of fascists, he suggested.

The BNP leader said it would not be right to confuse reforms and elections as reform is an ongoing process.

Calling upon the interim government to announce a roadmap for a quick election after discussing with everyone, the standing committee member said, "We are saying that elections are possible in July-August."

Stating that six months is enough time for the elections, he said adding today, the Administration and Judiciary Reform Commissions submitted their reports. Earlier, four more reforms have been submitted, he said adding, "We have submitted our suggestions to our Reform Commission. "

BNP Chairperson's adviser freedom fighter Adv Fazlur Rahman, Chief Coordinator of Gonosamhati Andolon Jonayed Saki, General Secretary of Dhaka Journalists Union Khurshid Alam, General Secretary of Dhaka Journalists Cooperative Association Shafiul Alam Dolan, among others, were present at the programme.
