Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday said the history of sacrificing lives for the country is glorious.

"The history of sacrificing lives for the country is glorious, especially those who have sacrificed their lives in 1947, 1952, 1971 and 2024. They would be remembered always with honours," he said while unwrapping the cover of the memorial book titled 'Martyrs of the 2nd Independence' published by Jamaat-e-Islami joining virtually from the event organized at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

Similar programmes were organized in different districts including Rangpur's District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

Dr Shafiqur said, "I think Jamaat has something to do as a responsible political party. We have also sacrificed our lives in the movement of 2024. The nation has got relieved from the fascist government. Same time, the most repressed party has also got relieved from their torture."

"We could not yet complete writing the history. The heroes of 2024 movement are getting frustrated. In this situation, we need to go forward playing a responsible role," he added.

In the programme at Rangpur, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Moulana Abdul Halim said the nation will not accept any excuse to delay trial of the killers of martyrs of July-August uprising.

"Many talk about reforms and elections too. But is it right to demand elections only by keeping the demands of reforms and justice as number three?" We strongly demand that the interim government must carry out all three tasks, reforms, justice and elections," he said.
