At least three journalists and members of the Law Reporters Forum (LRF) were injured on Wednesday in an attack allegedly carried out by a group of BNP activists at the Supreme Court premises. The journalists involved are Javed Akhtar of ATN News, AKM Rafiqul Islam (Hasan Jabed) of NTV and Azizul Islam Pannu of Deepto TV.

In a statement, the LRF condemned the attack and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice immediately. It also demanded exemplary punishment for the offenders.

Among the injured, Javed was taken to Islami Bank Hospital in Kakrail for treatment, while the two others received first aid from the hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the journalists were waiting for their lawyers in front of the Supreme Court Annex building around 11:50 am. BNP Chairperson's Adviser Habibur Rahman Habib and several other leaders and activists from Pabna were present at the time. A young man allegedly engaged in an argument with the journalists and became involved in a scuffle with them. Immediately afterward, a group of BNP leaders and activists from Pabna physically assaulted the journalists, punching and kicking them.

Witnesses said BNP's Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kayser Kamal and BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas intervened and brought the situation under control. Barrister Kamal arranged for journalist Javed to be taken to the hospital using the Supreme Court Bar Association ambulance.

Law Reporters Forum President AKM Rafiqul Hasan (Hasan Jabed), who accompanied Javed to the hospital, confirmed that he was admitted and undergoing medical tests.

In protest, journalists boycotted the scheduled briefing and staged a sit-in in front of the annex building. A large number of BNP supporters from Pabna had gathered at the court ahead of the verdict in the case related to the 1994 attack on a train carrying former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Ishwardi.
