Now Sheikh residence being demolished in Khulna

Protesters now carried out a rampage to renowned �Sheikh Residence� of former lawmakers Sheikh Helal Uddin and Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, in Khulna district on Wednesday while the Bangabandhu residence in capital�s Dhanmondi 32 is also being demolished.

The residence at Moylapota area in the city was surrounded by hundreds of people around 8:00 PM. They brought two bulldozers to vandalize the house.
According to eye-witnesses, the protesters were attempting to vandalize the residence with rod and hammer first. Later, they brought two bulldozers around 9:00PM. An arson attack was also reported during the ongoing effort.

Following the incident, Khulna Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Ahsan Habib said that he was informed about the demolition through Facebook but could not know anything else.

Earlier, scores of students forcibly entered the residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 and carried out a rampage following a declaration to 'liberate country from fascism' announced by Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Hasnat made the declaration on social media post at 6.00 PM. Later, when the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commenced a virtual speech addressing the students, the protestors got provoked and started the long march to demolish Bangabandhu residence around 8.00 PM.
