Starmer says Gazans 'must be allowed home'

LONDON, Feb 5: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer insisted Wednesday that Palestinians "must be allowed home" after President Donald Trump's shock suggestion that the US should take over the Gaza Strip.

Starmer also reiterated Britain's support for a Palestinian state after Trump suggested that Gazans could be resettled in other countries.

"They must be allowed home. They must be allowed to rebuild, and we should be with them in that rebuild on the way to a two-state solution," Starmer told the UK parliament during his weekly questions session.

Trump's statement came during a press conference Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was billed to focus on a second phase of the truce but ended with Trump calling for the US to own Gaza and make it "the Riviera of the Middle East". AFP
