BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman has expressed concerns over whether the ongoing discourse on political reforms is being used as a pretext to delay the establishment of what he calls a peoples government.
Speaking virtually at an event in Feni's Sonagazi upazila on Wednesday (5 February), he warned against prolonging reform discussions, suggesting that such delays could exacerbate the countrys existing problems.

Some people are stretching out various processes in the name of reforms. We must consider whether this is a conspiracy. If the process continues under this excuse, the nations problems will only increase, he stated.
Tarique emphasized the urgency of establishing a peoples government to address rising commodity prices, unemployment, the deteriorating education system, and law-and-order issues, aligning with public expectations. The sooner we achieve this, the sooner Bangladesh can move toward prosperity, he added.

Reaffirming BNPs commitment to its political struggle, Tarique urged party leaders and activists to persist in their movement until the dignity of those martyred under past regimes is restored and democracy is firmly established. Our struggle will not stop; our movement will continue until democracy and the peoples rule are established, he vowed.

The event, held at Saber Pilot High School field, was organized to hand over a newly constructed house to the family of slain Jubo Dal leader Mohammad Masud. Masud, a victim of alleged extrajudicial killing, was shot dead in a so-called crossfire on 25 June 2016. His widow and daughter, now in ninth grade, have struggled since his death, prompting Tarique to extend his support.

BNP vice chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and advisory council member Zainul Abedin Farroque also addressed the gathering.

At the event, the keys to the new house were handed over to Masuds wife.
