10 lakh die in cancer worldwide every year: Speakers

Around 1.8 crore people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and 10 lakh die from the disease. 

Speakers at the "United by Unique" seminar, organised by the Cancer Research Center Bangladesh (BCRC) at Wills Little Flower School and College Auditorium on World Cancer Day, called on everyone to come forward to prevent cancer.

The event featured Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury as the chief guest and was presided over by the Principal of Wills Little Flower School and College, ANM Shamsul Alam Khan. Professor Dr Md Abdul Bari, former Department Chairman of Clinical Oncology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and President of the Bangladesh Cancer Research Center, and Professor Dr Md Rajiul Haque, former Professor of Neurosurgery at Dhaka Medical College and President of the Brain Foundation, were among the notable speakers.

Speakers addressed common misconceptions about cancer, noting that while it is the second leading cause of death worldwide, early detection can lead to complete cure. They emphasized the need for collective action to fight cancer and pledged to support patients in their battle against the disease.
