At least three leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were injured in a cocktail explosion during a procession in Dinajpur’s Phulbari upazila on Tuesday evening.
The explosion took place around 7:15 PM at Choto Jamuna Bridge area in the upazila.
The injured are the upazila BNP’s general secretary Mostak Ahmmed Chowdhury, municipal BNP general secretary Shahadath Ali Shahajul and municipal Juba Dal activist Nurunabi Bokul.
According to the upazila Juba Dal joint-convener Shibli Sadik, the leaders and activists of the upazila BNP and its associate organisations brought out a procession in the area as part of the central programme, protesting against Awami League’s leaflets distribution.
When the procession reached in the area, a total of six cocktails were blasted, leaving the trio injured on the spot.
The injured were rescued and taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment, he said.
Phulbari Police Station officer-in-charge AKM Khandakar Mohibbul confirmed the incident, adding that they are trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident.
Legal action would be taken against them after identifying them, added the OC.
