Traditional boat race begins in Khulna  today

KHULNA, Feb 4: As part of the Youth Festival-2025 celebration, a traditional boat race, popularly known as Nouka-Baich will be held on the Rupsha River tomorrow. The event, organized by the Khulna Division Administration, will commence at the Number-1 Custom Ghat area and conclude at the Khanjahan Ali Bridge.  

To ensure the success of the race, a press briefing was held on Tuesday in the Circuit House Conference Room; the briefing was chaired by Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar. The race will begin at 12 pm and will be followed by a prize distribution ceremony.  

Approximately 30 boats are expected to participate in the competition. The winners in the main group will receive prize money of Tk 75,000, Tk 50,000, and Tk 30,000 for first, second, and third places, respectively, as announced by the divisional commissioner.  

As part of the festivities, a colourful procession will start from Shaheed Hadis Park at 11 am and proceed to the Custom Ghat area.  

To ensure the safety of participants, comprehensive security measures will be in place. A diver team, ambulance, and fire-fighters will be on standby, while law-enforcement agencies, including the Navy, Coast Guard, and River Police, will remain vigilant throughout the event. 
 
The press briefing was attended by Additional Police Commissioner Md Kutub Uddin, Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Hussain Shawkot, and DC Md Saiful Islam.
