The body of a woman, who had been missing for four days, was recovered from a pond at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Suraiya Sharmin Brishti, 33, a housewife, a resident of Alabhatpur in Narail town.
Police recovered the body from a pond behind a house at Joypur village in the upazila.
Brishti’s family members said that she had been missing since January 31. Her mother, Sabejan Begum, filed a general diary (GD) with Narail Sadar Police Station on February 1, reporting that Brishti had left home that day, saying she was going to Jashore, but never returned.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat District Hospital for an autopsy before being handed over to her family, said Md Sajeul Islam, officer-in-charge of Narail Sadar Police Station.
Legal procedures are undergoing in this regard, the police official added.
