Arafat Sunny reported for suspected bowling action

Chittagong Kings' left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny was reported for suspected bowling action in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

On-field umpires Masudur Rahman Mukul and Raveendra Wimalasiri raised their concern about his bowling action during Chittagong's final league phase match against Fortune Barishal on Saturday.

Chittagong won that match by 24 runs to confirm the top two finish in point table with Sunny taking 1-41 in four overs.

"The umpires reported his bowling action three days ago," BPL technical committee's chairman Roquibul Hasan told the reporters today.

"The bowling review committee will asses him. In fact, he will have to go for an assessment inside seven days. But there's no bar for him to bowl in the tournament."

Sunny played the Qualifer-1 game against Fortune Barishal yesterday but went wicket-less after bowling two overs. Chittagong lost that match by nine wickets.

He also has no bar to feature for Chittagong King's qualifier match against the Khulna Tigers on Wednesday.

Sunny, however, is the second spinner from Chittagong this season to be reported by the umpires after Aliss Al Islam.

Offspinner Aliss has already gone through an assessment but yet to receive the results.

It was not the first time for Sunny to be flagged by umpires. Sunny, who played 16 ODIs and 10 T20Is for Bangladesh, was suspected for an illegal bowling action during the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup and was later handed a ban. A few months later, he cleared his action to overturn the ban successfully.    —BSS
