Ex-Minister Nuruzzaman lands in jail after remand

A Rangpur court on Tuesday, sent former Social Welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed to jail after a five-day remand over a murder case during the July uprising.

Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Judge Devi Rani Roy issued the order after police produced him before the court.
He was arrested in January 30, from his relative's house in Rangpur's Post Office lane area. Following his arrest, police investigation officer Mustafizur Rahman sought a 15-day remand for interrogation and the court granted a five-day remand.

Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (Media) Ashik Mahmud stated that Nuruzzaman is accused in the murder case of one Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur.

Police have managed to collect some important information during the remand, he said.

Moreover, another two murder cases have been filed against Nuruzzaman with Jatrabari Police Station, the police official added.
