The requirement for police verification in passport issuance and renewal has been removed.
The information was disclosed on Tuesday (February 4), by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Earlier in the day, a meeting was held at the Secretariat, presided over by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Nasimul Gani, to address complications related to passports.
In the meeting, it was established that the National Identity Card (NID) and birth registration should be the primary documents for passport issuance. If these documents are accurate, there should be no obstacles in obtaining a passport. Based on this recommendation from the advisory council, the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs initiated the process of removing police verification from the passport application procedure.
An official, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that significant progress had been made on the issue during the meeting. Another meeting is expected to be held soon to finalize the decision, as most representatives have agreed to the removal of police verification.
It has been learned that necessary recommendations were formulated in the meeting to resolve passport-related complications.
A final decision will be made based on the advisory council’s directives, followed by the issuance of an official order. Representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Special Branch of Police, and other relevant departments were present at the meeting.
