Travel ban imposed on Keya group chairman, 5 others

A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on Keya Group Chairman Abdul Khaleque Pathan and five others following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).  

Judge of Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court Zakir Hossain Ghalib imposed the restriction on Monday (February 3) to prevent the accused from leaving the country while under investigation for alleged financial misconduct.  

Individuals affected by the ban are-- the chairman of Keya Group Abdul Khaleque Pathan, former senior executive vice president and branch manager of Southeast Bank Limited (Gulshan Branch) Mohammad Nurul Islam, vice president and credit in-charge Morshed Alam Mamun, senior assistant vice president and credit in-charge (Currently vice president and branch head) Rezwanul Kabir, assistant vice president and import department in-charge (Currently senior assistant vice president and export in-charge) Amiya Kumar Mallick, AVP & Export department in-charge (Currently senior assistant vice president and export in-charge) Ashraful Islam.  

According to the ACC�s application, the individuals in question misused their authority without approval from the bank�s head office. They are accused of committing fraud and criminal breach of trust, embezzling Tk 498.38 crore from Southeast Bank�s Gulshan branch.  

An ACC case was officially filed against them on January 2, 2024. Investigators fear that if the accused flee abroad, it could jeopardize the ongoing investigation, making the travel ban a necessary step.  

The court�s decision aims to ensure a fair and uninterrupted probe into the allegations of financial misconduct and embezzlement.
