Four journalists assaulted in Laxmipur

Four local journalists were reportedly assaulted by miscreants while collecting news in Laxmipur's Sadar upazila on Monday.

Among them two were shot and one critically injured.

The incident took place at  around 4:30PM  in western area adjacent to Degree College area in the upazila.

The injured are senior member of Laxmipur press club and district correspondent of Dainik Khabar Md Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary of Chandraganj press club Md Alauddin, Foisal Mahmud and Abdul Malek Nirab.

According to report, a Kuwaiti expatriate informed Rafiqul over the phone that miscreants attacked on  his house. Being informed, journalists Rafiqul along with three co-workers were heading to the spot and were attacked by a masked group of miscreants on the way.

Foisal Mahmud was reportedly shot in the leg, while the others injured were beaten up. Later, locals informed police and took them to Laxmipur General Hospital.

The on-duty doctor Kamala Roy confirmed the incident and said that among the injured, Rafiqs condition is very critical, however, the matter of being shot will be assured after x-ray report.

Laxmipur district Police Super Md Akter Hosain said that police team has been deployed to the spot and the accused identification process is ongoing.

Further legal steps will be taken in this regard, the police official added.
