A mason was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals over previous enmity in Jhalakathis Rajapur upazila on Sunday evening.

The incident took place around 7:15 PM at Southpur village under Mothabari union in the upazila.
The victim was identified as Abul Bashar, 45, a resident of that village in the upazila.

Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ismail Hossain confirmed the matter.

The victims uncle, Rezaul Karim, said that there had been a long standing dispute between Abul Bashar and Nazmul Hasan Khan, son of Pannu Hasan, over previous enmity. Nazmul Hasan Khan, as a sequel to that, locked into an altercation with Abul Bashar and stabbed him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival, Rezaul said.

The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, said the OC.

The OC further said that legal action would be taken against those found involved in the incident.
