Justice Shahed Nuruddin, a judge of the High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court, resigned on Thursday while he is under investigation for alleged misconduct by the recently formed Supreme Judicial Council.

Justice Nuruddin was among 12 High Court Division judges who had been barred from court duties since October 21, 2024, following student-led protests against alleged judicial bias during the 15-year rule of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

SC Spokesman Muajjem Hussain confirmed his resignation letter to the president through Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

Muajjem also said that Justice Shahed cited personal difficulties as the reason for his resignation.

The Supreme Judicial Council is currently investigating allegations of misconduct against several High Court judges.

Earlier, on November 19, 2024, three other High Court Division judges-Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury, Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque-resigned after spending five years barred from judicial duties due to misconduct allegations. They had been sidelined during the tenure of the Awami League government.

Shahed Nuruddin joined the judicial service as munsif on April 20, 1983 and he was promoted as District and Sessions Judge on February 27, 2000.
