A court in Dhaka has issued travel ban on six people, including former lawmaker of Bhola-3 constituency Nurunnabi Chowdhury alias Shaon, on charges of embezzling money through various irregularities and acquiring illegal assets.

Other people, who are barred to leave the country, are- - Nurunnabis wife Farzana Chowdhury, former Sunamganj-1 MP Moazzem Hossain Ratan and his wife Mahmuda Hossain Lata, and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner SM Shibli Noman and his wife Meghla Noman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib passed the order on Thursday (January 30), after hearing the application of Director Md Abdul Majed on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The application states that investigation is underway against them on allegations of abusing power, accepting bribes and embezzling money through various irregularities and corruption to acquire illegal assets.

The investigation is likely to prove the prima-facie of the allegations. From confidential sources, the anti-graft watchdog got to know that the accused are trying to leave the country to avoid judgement.

An application was already sent to the Immigration Police on January 27, 2025 on behalf of ACC, so that they cannot leave the country. It is also necessary to have a court order to bar them from travelling abroad.
