Poet Sajjad Sharif has been resigned from Bangla Academys Executive Council.
He submitted his resignation letter to Bangla Academys Director General Professor Mohammad Azam on Wednesday (January 29).
He resigned from the council, six days after the academy suspended the list of winners of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024 amid controversies.
He joined the academys new executive council after the July Mass Uprising.
"As the posts of the Bangla Academy, the Director General and the Executive Council have been degraded, it is not possible for me to hold this position morally," said Sajjad Sharif.
Bangla Academy, however, on Wednesday night declared the revised list of its literary awards after a review meeting of the executive council.
Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam announced the list at the academys official facebook page.
According to the facebook post, the academy eliminated three names from the previous award list-- Selim Morshed in fiction, Faruk Nawaz in childrens literature and Muhammad Hannan in the War of Independence-- but not including any other instead of them due to the academy policy.
Earlier, the academy suspended the list of winners of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024 amid controversies on Saturday.
