Rangpur: Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj upazla) ruling party MP Manjurul Islam Liton died from bullet injuries at around 7:15pm on Saturday.

Professor of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr Bimal Chandra Roy confirmed it. Liton received two bullets on his chests, the hospital sources said. His dead body has been kept in post-operative room.

Armed miscreants shot Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj upazla) MP Manjurul Islam Liton entering his Bamandanga village home on Saturday evening, reports our Gaibandha correspondent quoting additional superintendent of Gaibandha police Abdullah Al Faruk.

The miscreants on a bike came to the house of MP Liton just after the Magrib prayer and shot twice on the chest of the ruling Awami League lawmaker. After shooting, the goons managed to flee the scene.

Critically injured Liton has been rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Abdullah Al Faruk, who is now in charge of the SP, along with police force is going to the spot.

After the attack, local Awami League and Jubo League activists have brought out several processions protesting the incident. A tense situation is  prevailing in the locality.

Earlier, Liton shot an eight-year-old schoolboy in Gaibandha in October last year. Later, he was arrested. He secured a bail in November this year.
