In a press release issued on Tuesday, Food Ministry's Public Relation Officer Imdad Islam confirmed.

He said the government took the decision to ensure rice at an affordable price to low-income people at the upazila level.

He said that 3 tonnes of rice will be sold through OMS outlets per day in each of the 401 upazilas across 61 districts and 1 tonne per day in each of 23 upazilas in three hill districts, covering a total of 424 upazilas through 848 distribution centres.

Besides, under the OMS (general) programme, 1 tonne rice will be sold daily in 906 centres in Dhaka metropolitan area, municipalities in district headquarters, eight cities and four labor-intensive districts - Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur.

Each buyer would be able to buy five kg of rice at Tk 30 per kgs from the OMS centres.
