6 BCL leaders expelled in RmMC

Six leaders of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL) were expelled for varying periods following their alleged involvement in a clash between the students of Rangamati Medical College (RmMC) and outsiders on July 16, 2024 . 

The information was confirmed to the media by Prof. Dr. Preeti Prasun Barua on Tuesday noon.

RmMC authorities have expelled Ayad Sharif, secretary of the college BCL unit, for two years from the academic activities along with he was expelled from the college dormitory for life. 

The others five BCL leaders have been banned from the college dormitory for three months each. 

The expelled five leaders are Bikram Adittoy Chakma, joint secretary of the college BCL unit and a student of the 2020-21 session, Imtiaz Hossain, organizing secretary of the college BCL unit and a student of the 2020-21 session; Srijon Kanti Day, organizing secretary of the college BCL unit and a student of the 2022-23 session; Abvizit Kumar Bodday, organizing secretary of the college BCL unit and a student of the 2022-23 session; and Sing Sing A Mang Marma, organizing secretary of the college BCL unit and a student of the 2022-23 session.

A notification was issued on Sunday (January 26), signed by Dr Habibul Islam, coordinator of the seat allocation committee and assistant professor in the department of archaeology, in this matter. 

It said that general students of the college filed a complaint against some students following a conflict situation between the students and outsiders on July 16, 2024. A probe committee found evidence against the students and recommended punishment to the authorities. 

The recommend punishments were unanimously approved during the 10th academic council meeting, it added. 

The accused students have been directed to leave the university dormitory by February 1.
