Police on Monday morning arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to five months imprisonment in cheque scam case, from Bhairabpasha Bazar area under Nalchity upazila in Jhalakathi district.
The convicted is Rafiqul Islam Auwal, a resident of Raipara area in the upazila.
A team of police, based on secret information, conducted a drive in the area and arrested Rafiqul, said Nalchity Police Station Officer In-Charge Abdus Salam.
According to the case statement, a Jhalakathi court in 2023 sentenced Rafiqul to a five month imprisonment in a cheque scam case.
The court also fined him Tk 2,84,000.
After the court order, Rafiqul went into hiding.
