Jagannath University (JnU) students staged a protest rally and demonstration on Sunday (January 26) condemning the brutal rape and murder of a Bangladeshi woman in Bengaluru, India. The protest held in the university's Shanto Chattar premises after Zuhr prayers, resonated with slogans like "Delhi or Dhaka, break the chains of Indian aggression."
Addressing the gathering, the students expressed outrage and demanded justice. "We stand here to demand justice for our Bangladeshi sister who was brutally raped and murdered. For years, we have faced discrimination and oppression from India. Incidents like border killings, starting with Felani, remain unpunished, and there is no accountability from the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh. We demand immediate justice for this incident and all the previous atrocities. If justice is denied, we will intensify our protests," they said.
Mostafizur Rahman, a student from the Department of History, stated, "The rape and murder of a Bangladeshi woman in Bengaluru is a heinous crime. India has been spreading propaganda against Bangladesh as it fears losing its influence. These incidents are calculated attempts to demean our country. Bangladesh is a sovereign nation, and we will not tolerate such conspiracies. We strongly condemn this crime and demand swift justice."
Another protester added, "The murder of a 28-year-old woman after such an inhumane crime is intolerable. India has repeatedly failed to bring justice for similar incidents. If this continues, we will be left with no choice but to launch a stronger movement."
Maksud, a student from the Department of Islamic Studies, said, "Felani's killing remains unresolved, and justice for other similar atrocities has not been done. India frequently interferes in Bangladesh's internal matters and tries to destabilize our nation. The murder of our sister is an attack on our dignity, and we demand immediate and fair justice."
It is noteworthy that the body of the Bangladeshi woman was found last Friday near Kalkere Lake in Bengaluru's Ramamurthy area.
Indian police suspect that she was raped and then murdered. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred on Thursday night while she was returning home from work.
