Two murdered in Pirojpur, Chattogram

Two men were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Pirojpur and Chattogram.

BHANDARIA, PIROJPUR: A man was beaten to death by mob being suspected as thief in Bhandaria Upazila of the district early Sunday.

The incident occurred in Posharibunia Village under Dhaowa Union of the upazila at around 3 am.

The deceased was identified as Selim Shah, 50, a resident of the area.

Police sources said that two suspected thieves entered the house of Shahidul Islam Feroz, a teacher in the village, at around 2:30 am. They took two gold chains and one silver chain with Tk 30,000 in cash from the house.

Sensing the presence of the thieves, Mohammad Ali Mannan, son of Feroz, summoned his neighbours over the phone.

Locals then chased the thieves and caught Selim, while his associate Emdadul managed to flee the scene.

Later on, they started beating Selim, leaving him dead on the spot at around 3 am.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge of Bhandaria Police Station Ahmmad Anowar confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.

CHATTOGRAM: A local businessman was shot to death and another injured by miscreants in Raozan Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident occurred at Asad Ali Matubbar Para of the upazila at around 1:15 pm.

Deceased Jahangir Alam, 55, the eldest son of late Abu Sayeed, was a resident of Niramish Para in Noapara and the owner of a community centre in the upazila.

The deceased's younger brother Didar said, Jahangir was returning home after performing prayers on a motorcycle with his manager Abbas, 39.

As they reached Asad Ali Matubbar Para, a group of unidentified assailants opened fire on them. Jahangir was shot in the head and died on the spot while Abbas sustained head injuries.
